Since 1963, people have enjoyed the gooey, sugary goodness of the Cadbury Crème Egg. It has been a staple in Easter baskets across the globe.

Kraft Foods, who owns Cadbury, has been working on tightening its budget, and the Cadbury Crème Egg has been a victim of those cut backs. Recently, Cadbury Crème Egg lovers have raised their voices in discontent over the company’s new recipe that leaves them with “cheap tasting” eggs, reports Yahoo.

Obviously, Kraft does not understand that they should not mess with perfection.

Kraft secretly replaced the Creme Egg’s traditional milk chocolate shell for a shell created from “standard cocoa mix chocolate.” The eggs beloved shell is now “no longer Dairy Milk…it’s similar, but not exactly Dairy Milk,” a Kraft spokesperson told The Independent.

“We tested the new one with consumers. It was found to be the best one for the Creme Egg, which is why we’ve used it this year. The Creme Egg has never been called the Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Creme Egg. We have never played on the fact that Dairy Milk chocolate was used,” a Kraft representative said in attempt to explain the decision.

Not only has Kraft changed the recipe for the Cadbury Crème Egg, they have also cut back its multipack from 3 eggs to 2. Despite the smaller amount, Kraft has not cut back on the multipack’s price.

Kraft turned to Facebook to announce, “Creme Eggs are back. And we’re totes emosh”

Followers on Cadbury’s page were not so welcoming.

“Boycott the company for their cheap under hand tactics towards consumers we expect it from nestle on Yorkie bars but now Caburys?” one follower posted.

“So very disappointed that you’ve changed your recipe. I truly hope that you come to your senses and resort back to the normal dairy milk chocolate around Creme Eggs. Don’t cut costs, it’ll backfire spectacularly on you when people refuse to pay out for your inferior products. We look forward to Creme Eggs – don’t ruin Easter,” another follower posted.

In the United Kingdom, Cadbury Creme Eggs are the best-selling confectionery item between New Year’s Day and Easter. Kraft sees sales in excess of $200 million.

Cadbury will be walking on egg shells around its consumers, and it will be interesting to see how this change will affect future sales.

So, readers and Cadbury Crème Egg lovers, what is your take on the new crème egg?
